So this is the start of the journey, a 3 year epic to bring the world a pineapple grown in Leeds...
No seriously, I'm going to try growing my own pineapple. Apparently it takes 3 years or so, so I thought a blog would be a fun way to keep you all posted and would serve as an online time capsule as well:
Day 1, July 26th 2008
I bought a pineapple at Sainsburys, and brought him to the park to ripen a little in the sun. Warmest day of the year so far, and it was great just to sit outside, eat a barbeque, play some boule and some frisbee and generally relax after a long academic year. Jason (called as such for Jason Lee, footballer who had a haircut that looked like a pineapple) then came home, where I cut off the crown, pruned him a little and left him to dry out in the understairs cupboard.

Apparently, you have to leave him for a week before potting to allow all the none essential parts to rot away...nice. We also bought a mini-greenhouse for him to go in, and will be picking up some winter fleece to keep him warm over the winter months. For the record, the rest of the pineapple went on some homemade pizzas, which were seriously tasty! I think when Jason is born, we'll have to cannabalise into more pizzas, to mark the round trip. So that's the start, there will be pictures to go with all this silliness, so keep an eye on here for updates. Let's go grow pineapples!
